As the oldest licensed whiskey distillery in the world, Bushmills was looking for help to create custom lifestyle illustrations to bring a more modern feel to their merchandise collection. With the creation of their new collection, there were two things they wanted to highlight: the launch of their Bushmills cocktail recipes, and the process of how they mature their whiskey in Oloroso Sherry casks.
Bushmills’ brand photography and overall aesthetic is more moody — with dramatic lighting and intense highlights and shadows to match. This is exactly what needed to be captured in the Black Fashioned illustration style as well. We landed on this retro poster illustration style, to really bring the dramatic highlights and shadows from the bottle and glass to life. Paired with some halftone shading to keep the dimension of the illustration and further nod to the retro inspiration.
